South32 is a Perth-based mining company formed from businesses spun off by BHP in 2015. In WA it mines bauxite and produces alumina at Worsley Alumina. Elsewhere South32 mines coal, manganese, nickel, silver, lead and zinc.
Alcoa will trial technology at its Wagerup alumina refinery to produce steam by renewable-powered compression instead of gas-fired heat that promises a 70% per cent emissions reduction.
