Alcoa to own just 5pc of WA plant to bust China’s dominance of gallium supply
The US miner under fire for its environmental performance in WA sees the gallium plant solidifying the importance of its Wagerup alumina refinery.
Worsley Alumina is a South32-owned bauxite miner in WA's South West. Bauxite mined near Boddington is transported by conveyor to an alumina refinery near Collie largely powered by coal. The alumina is then railed to Bunbury for export.
WA's industrial greenhouse gas emissions are dominated by four products and a handful of companies, including a few that have managed to keep a low profile in the climate wars.
