Trump critical minerals deal could lock in jarrah forest mining for decades
An Alcoa plant to produce gallium in WA's South West will need green tape shredded to start on schedue and long term forest mining to be viable.
The Darwin LNG plant has processed gas from the Bayu Undan field in Timor-Leste waters since 2006. Operator Santos plans to switch to processing gas from the Barossa field in 2025.
Australian LNG producers are under pressure on emissions and decommissioning, and Santos wants to tackle both problems in one swoop at Bayu Undan, but it needs everyone to play along.
Santos and ENI are looking for solutions for CO2 and removing old facilities in the waters north of Darwin. Time will tell if the problems are solved or just delayed.
